Hi folks,

It has been on my mind for the last one year or so to publish a book on the bio-graphies of all great (popular) Telugu Music Directors and I would like to make it as THE REFERENCE book in the future for any one who wants to write any article (or do any TV program) on these music directors. Unfortunately, no one has hitherto tried to publish such a book and I strongly feel that some one should do it. I always believe that a music director should be given the highest credit (in comparison to the writer and singers), when it comes to a melodious song.

I am thinking of the below MD's for the book:

Saluri Rajeswara Rao, Pendyala Nageswara rao, Ghantasala,
Adi Narayana Rao, TV Raju, Master Venu, T Chalapathi Rao,
KV Mahadevan/Puhalendi, MS Viswanadhan, Sathyam, Ramesh Naidu,
GK Venkatesh, Rajan-Nagendra, Chakravarthi, JV Raghavulu, SP Balu, Ilaya Raja
,
and all other misc folks (Aswaddhama, Subbaraman, Susarla, S Hanumantha Rao, Gopalam, Govardhan, Sudarsan etc).

Pl. let me know if I am missing any other popular music director in the above list.

We have decided on the writer as well and he already started compiling the data and pictures (and he would do an extensive series of interviews of the near-and-dears, relatives and friends of these MD's. The book should tentatively be complete in next 4, 5 months from now.

I would request a little from you all Smile Can you pl. post the online links (of any info on the above music directors) here? Or you can write to us at chimata.music@gmail.com.

Cheers,
Srini

- S.Janaki (Mouna Poratam) definetely deserves a place in the book though its one movie to her credit

I think this is an excellent idea! Here are a few more MDs that I can name:

1. B. Shankar (Ghazal Shankar)
2. Along with M.S. Viswanathan there was also another MD by name Ramamurthy who used to make a duo in the old days, a la Shankar-Jaikishen. He also deserves a mention for many old Telugu melodies along with MSV.
3. There was also a less known Joseph Krishnamurthy. I think he is not the same as Vijaya Krishnamurthy.

Thanks Maruthi for your feedback..

I believe that my-kind-of music stopped with Ilaya Raja. Though I like Keeravani and Koti in the next generation, I don't think we need to write a book on them at this time.

The book is mainly on those whom people have forgotten or any info is hardly available on them. If you call up Koti, you will know each and every detail about him.. but who is going to tell us about some one like GK Venkatesh, T Chalapathi Rao or Satham?? I guess now you got my point Smile

Hanuman gAru,
We can put all of them in a single chapter Smile We will devote a complete chanpter only when they are really popular for a reasonable number of melodies (not just a few songs). Pl. let me know if I am missing any such person from my initial list Smile

Cheers,
Srini

2. palleTUri chinnODu - NTR and Manjula - This movie has a few good songs - "neellEmanTunnAyi O vadinA" by PS and LR Eswari, "katteranTi kallunDE chinnadAnnirA" by LR Eswari, "em paTTu paTTAvu bramhachAri" by PS are good.

3. ninnE pellADutA - NTR and Bharati - Has a good song "mallela pAnupu undi" by PS

The info on the Discussion thread in Bewarsetalk was directly lifted from Veturi's komma kommakO sannAyi book (I have a copy of it with me). But we should appreciate his patience in typing all that info there Smile

Keep posting the related linkshere. I already took a few copies of the articles on Saluri, Pendyala, Ghantasala, Master Venu, and Kodandapani from "Black-White" section in TeluguPeople.com and sent them to the writer this weekend..

Cheers,

Thanks 116, I already lifted these articles on Ghantasala and SPB and put them in our library (Editorials and Articles tab). Wink

I am sure that eenAdu and Andhrajyothy keep posting some interesting articles on the old music directors.. let me know whenever you happen to see them and I will capture them and send them to the book writer.

One more MD that did not make into your "Others" list is V. Kumar. He also desrves a mention along with the likes of B. Shankar for producing some melodious tunes in late 60s and early 70s (Kannavari Kalalu, Sambarala Rambabu, Collector Janaki, to name a few).

I remember him Smile I am leaving the Others section to the convenience of the writer (I am not sure as to which extent he can get inf on these folks).. But I am very particular on the main folks and a chapter will be devoted to each of them.

116,

Raj says that Mohan Babu is the hero in praLaya garjana.. as far as I remember the wall posters of that movie, it is Krishnam Raju... but MB also played a side role. Correct me if I am wrong.
