Hi Srini,

Is there a chance you can upload SPB's recital of Bhagavad Gita. I have been trying to find it over the web but haven't found it or heard it yet.

I heard good reviews of that and am really eager to hear it. Gantasala's version is great no doubt but for a change

It seems that the Bhagavad Gita recited by S. P Balasubrahmanyam was released about eight years ago in two cassettes. I don’t think that an audio CD was ever released of this recital. Initially SP’s recital was well taken, and he sang more than 108 slokas. This recital does not imitate Ghantasala’s which has only 108 (ashtothara) slokas. The special feature of this recital is that it is has been tuned by Pugalendi, and the background score is good.

At the time of releasing this audio, prominent people like P. Susila felt that it sounds like a lilting song meant to put a small crying child to sleep, and certainly it does not reflect the majesty of Ghantasala’s recital. I have been listening to both of them for quite some years. Balasubrahmanyam’s enunciation in reading the commentary is commendable.

Old established compositions reside in our subconscious memory and they have an upper hand in influencing us over even better new compositions. We can see this phenomenon in the case of the songs of Devadas (Krishna). The new Davadas songs are as good as the old Davadas songs. However they did not receive the recongition they deserve.

I would be happy to possess an mp3 version of Bhagavad Gita recited by S. P Balasubrahmanyam. I hope people are listening to us!
